Combat Spam
Unsolicited e-mails can take up a lot your time and after a while become very frustrating. You can take the following measures to limit the amount of unwanted e-mails.
- Do not submit your e-mail address to any form on the internet where you're unsure of the integrity of that web site.
- Do not reply to any e-mail that you are not sure about.
- Never open an attachment from an unsolicited e-mail. Not only can this plant hidden software on your computer that helps collect e-mail addresses but could install a computer virus.
- Some e-mails offer special offers or even programs for cleaning up spam! do not reply to these e-mails even if they say that you've won the lottery! It's more than likely they're just after your e-mail address.
If you would like to reply to some e-mails or submit your e-mail address to web sites that you're not sure about. Why not get yourself another FREE web based e-mail address and use this when submitting to sites or replying to e-mails that you feel may be dubious. There are many services available just type "Free email account" into your search engine.
Robot Proof
Some automated software "robots" can automatically search the internet and collect "harvest" e-mail addresses contained within web site pages. DirectFX is aware of this and to protect you we automatically use camouflage techniques to disguise your e-mail addresses from these robots. We make your e-mail addresses robot proof.
You may wish to promote or advertise your website by submitting your details to web sites that offer to advertise your website. Please be aware, if you do this, that these companies might not be disguising your e-mail address and so it won't be long before it is harvested by an evil robot. This would nullify any of DirectFX's efforts to protect your email address. If you wish to advertise your site in other places on the web please talk to us first.
Email Clients
Email Clients (software) such as Outlook Express, Entourage etc. have their own in-built spam filtering options. It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with these options, slowly increasing their sensitivity to spam as you go along, until you reach a level that is comfortable for you. When you adjust these settings it's a good idea to occasionally check your junk mail folder as sometimes messages that you may want end up there.
DirectFX email services
Available to all DirectFX customers are spam filtering facilities. Not only do we protect your e-mail addresses that appear on your website but we can also filter your incoming email removing a high percentage of spam. Some programs just create e-mail addresses, guessing at e-mail addresses, some of these unsolicited emails get through to you. That's where our spam filter steps in deletes anything it considers as spam before it arrives at your inbox.
You can also protect incoming e-mails by using a "White List". Let us know the addresses that you always want to receive e-mail from and we will add them to this White List. They will never be considered as spam and will always be forwarded to you.
However, send us email addresses for the "Black List" and they will ALWAYS be considered as spam and will be deleted. They will never reach your inbox.
